Frequently asked questions
How much does longarm quilting cost?+
Edge-to-edge quilting is $0.015 per square inch with a $50 minimum. Every quilt includes a $4 thread and needle charge. Optional add-ons include binding ($0.20 per linear inch, scalloped edges $0.30, faux piped $0.40) and trimming & squaring ($10 — included free with binding). Use our pricing calculator for an instant estimate.
Is there a thread charge?+
Yes — every quilt is charged a $4 thread and needle charge, which covers your thread and a brand-new needle. If you'd like multiple thread colors, each additional color change is $4.
Can I choose my thread color?+
Yes! Choose from over 60 thread colors. Or let us choose for you — a color that blends well with your top and doesn't take away from your design, or go bold and have the longarming really stand out.
How do I measure my quilt?+
Place your quilt top on a flat surface and measure from side to side (width) and then top to bottom (length). All quilts are measured on the longarm bar for final invoicing.
How big should my backing and batting be?+
Your backing and batting each need to be at least 5 inches larger than your quilt top on every side — about 8 to 10 inches bigger in each direction. Batting should be the same size as the backing.
How long does longarm quilting take?+
About two weeks from the time your quilt arrives to when it ships back out. During the busy season (October through December) it's closer to four weeks. A one-week rush is available for $50.
Do you accept mail-in quilts?+
Yes. We quilt for customers across the lower 48 states. Quilts ship via USPS Priority Mail with $100 of insurance included, and local drop-off and pickup is available by appointment. Return shipping is figured into your final invoice.
What do I need to do before sending my quilt?+
Press your top, square it up, clip loose threads, and please don't baste or pin the layers together — we load them separately. Our Quilt Prep guide has a full printable checklist.
Can you bind my quilt for me?+
Absolutely. Machine binding attaches the front and back of the binding at the same time — $0.20 per linear inch, scalloped edges $0.30, faux piped binding $0.40. We can use leftover backing, or include your own material (please don't cut it — we'll cut it to our specifications). Trimming and squaring is included with binding.
